Oyo Government Sacks 662 Workers, Distributes Sack Letters

Ibadan – As the Governor Abiola Ajimobi led administration in Oyo State begins distribution of sack letters to some 662 workers for alleged forgery of results of their West African School Certificates, palpable fear has enveloped the entire public and civil service in the state with the affected workers describing the letters as bad Christmas gifts. The most affected are workers from the Polytechnic, Ibadan, and its satellite campus at Saki, The Polytechnic, Eruwa, and other tertiary institutions under the state government. Jonathan Disowns Comment On 2019 elections[SEE COMMENT]

FORMER President Goodluck Jonathan has debunked an online report which claimed that he spoke about 2019 elections in a meeting with his kinsmen in his hometown, Otuoke, Bayelsa state. A statement issued by Jonathan’s media aide, Mr.Ikechukwu Eze, dismissed the claim as lies, stressing that the former President was neither in his home state on the stated date nor met with his “kinsmen who paid him an end of year visit”, as claimed in the false report. An All Progressives Congress member of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Ayo Omidiran, on Thursday, dismissed insinuations that the party’s national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, would leave the APC for another political party. She also said Tinubu’s strong allies like the Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, and other associates, would not leave the APC which they sacrificed so much to build for anybody. 2017: Buhari, Osinbajo to spend N1.05bn on foreign trips

The foreign trips of President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the State House headquarters will gulp about N1.05bn in the 2017 fiscal year. Their local trips will cost the nation N353.115m. These are some of the details of the 2017 Appropriation Bill currently before the National Assembly as obtained by our correspondent on Thursday in Abuja. According to the breakdown of the proposed budget, Buhari’s international travels and transport will gulp N739.487m; Osinbajo’s will cost N218.296m; while the State House Headquarters will spend N97.208m on the same item. For local travels and transport, N238.201m is budgeted for Buhari; N88.364m is allocated to Osinbajo, while the State House Headquarters will get N26.44m. Apart from the travel expenses, the President and the Vice President are expected to spend N168.45m on foodstuffs as well as catering materials and supplies in 2017. Robbers snatch police van, kill one in Ekiti

A tragedy hit the Ekiti State Police Command on Thursday as robbers  killed a policeman, identified simply as Inspector Gada, and injured another cop called Sergeant Sunday. It was learnt that the robbers escaped with a police van in the robbery, which took place in Ilupeju, in the Oye Local Government Area of the state. A resident, who pleaded not to be named, said, “I think the policemen were returning from a patrol in the Itapa area and got to a checkpoint between Ilupeju and Oye, in front of the house of a prominent politician in this state, Bamitale Oguntoyinbo, when the robbers, who had apparently laid an ambush for them, swooped on them and rained bullets on the policemen. “By the time the robbers were through with the onslaught, the team leader, who we know as Inspector Gada, had been killed, while Sergeant Sunday was seriously injured and rushed to a hospital. FG okays 5% of recovered loot for whistleblowers

The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the Ministry of Finance Whistleblowing Programme that may see individuals, who voluntarily volunteers credible information on stolen or concealed funds, smiling home with between 2.5 per cent and five per cent of the funds when recovered. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun; and the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari. Adeosun said the programme was designed to encourage anyone with information about a violation, misconduct or improper activity that impacted negatively on Nigerians and government, to report such. The Ondo State Governor-elect, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has commended his opponents at the last governorship election in the state for accepting the result of the election in good faith. The time allowed by law to file petitions at the Election Petitions Tribunal to challenge the poll result lapsed on Sunday, December 18, 2016, which was 21 days after the announcement of the results of the poll. No contestant had filed a petition against the winner of the poll as of Sunday. Akeredolu was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission after defeating 26 candidates of other political parties in the November 26 poll. The governor-elect, who spoke with our correspondent on Tuesday at his hometown in Owo, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, believed that the election was free and fair. FG declares Monday, Tuesday public holidays

The Federal Government has declared Monday, December 26 and Tuesday, December 27, 2016 as well as Monday, January 2, 2017, as public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day and 2017 New Year celebrations respectively. The Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd.), made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government on Wednesday in Abuja. He urged Christians and Nigerians in general to remain committed and supportive of the government of President Muhammadu Buhari “in his sustained efforts towards building a peaceful, united and prosperous nation.” The minister, in a statement by the acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido, called on Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and peaceful co-existence across the country. “The minister wishes Nigerians at home and abroad a merry Christmas and prosperous New Year 2017,” the statement said.
