There is excitement among beneficiaries of the N5000 federal government stipend in Kwara following confirmation of payment of the fund. The federal government had announced the payment of N5000 to poor people in the country which was part of the campaign of the All Progressives Congress and covered in the 2016 budget The Kwara state government confirmed that some targeted residents have started receiving their money. Hajia Ayinke Saka who is the state commissioner for women affairs and social development confirmed the payment of the fund. She said beneficiaries included residents from Ilorin West, Ilorin East and Ilorin South and that it was spread across the16 local government areas of the state. Saka said the difficulty in opening bank accounts and verification numbers was the cause of the delay for some people and promised that others will start receiving their payment in a week. Activist lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, says a group of cabals have hijacked the Presidency owing to the alleged ill health of President Muhammadu Buhari. The Lagos based lawyer claimed that the cabal are in control of all critical national issues even to the exclusion of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo. The NLC said it will continue its campaign to ensure that the incidence of non-payment of salaries is a thing of the past. The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Federal Government to implement the N52,000 new minimum wage in 2017. In its new year message, the Union's President, Ayuba Wabba also asked President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle unemployment affecting young Nigerians. Wabba charged the President to deal with the challenge of the power sector through "either reversal of the privatization of the sector or ensuring that those who run the sector provide electricity on regular basis and at rates consumer can afford."
